Most homes heat water using either gas or electricity. Both have their drawbacks. Gas is a fossil fuel and contributes heavily to climate change. Meanwhile traditional electric water heaters are super expensive to run and inefficient. The alternative that's now increasingly popular is a water heater powered by a heat pump. These don't use electricity to directly heat the water, instead the electricity powers an efficient compressor heat pump. It uses around 1/3 of the power of a typical electric heater, saving you significantly on your electricity bill, as well as reducing or eliminating fossil.
